The four original letters: dated July 17, 1841, Crawfordville, Georgia, to Charles L. Jenkins, regards the University, candidacy,
and includes a handwritten copy of a report of the House of Representatives; dated Crawfordville, Georgia, January 6, 1864,
Dear Cobb, Stephens responds to Cobb's letter; dated Washington DC, June 3, 1858, to Charles Lanman, Stephens requests the
return of his autobiographical manuscript; dated Washington DC, Dec. 19, 1858, to Charles Lanman, concerns a communication
from George Rockingham Gilmer. Additional topics include political interests and the "Felton Matter." The collection also
includes excerpts (undated reproductions) from Life of Alexander H. Stephens by Richard Malcolm Johnston and William Hand
Browne.

M. L. Barron. Barron, a student at the University of Georgia, writes of other students, college president Dr. Alonzo Church,
and the sectarian difficulties plaguing the college. The last portion of the letter is dated July 2, after Barron has graduated.
He writes, "The scene has very much changed (...) I retract most of what I have said in the first part of this letter."

appointing John Allison Lt. Col. of the 1st State Regiment of Infantry in the Commonwealth of Virginia, dated July 23, 1779;
order signed by Andrew Jackson directing the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to respite of Philander
R. Broad, dated February 18, 1837; certificate signed by Robert E. Lee that articles were received for the improvement of
the harbor of St. Louis, circa 1838; correspondence to Thomas Gilbert of Columbus, Georgia, from Alexander H. Stephens, regarding
Miscellanies of Georgia; and correspondence to Captain John H. Martin from Jefferson Davis regarding the cane Martin gave
Davis, dated January 9, 1887. The collection also includes an etched portrait of Andrew Jackson, and engraved portraits of
Thomas Jefferson and Robert E. Lee.

The collection consists of the papers of Clement Anselm Evans, diaries and letters to his wife Allie (Mary Allen Walton),
which record his role in the Civil War, and typescripts of the book "Intrepid Warrior," which is the published version of
these papers. Intrepid Warrior was compiled and edited by Robert Grier Stephens, Jr., grandson of Clement A. Evans. Also in
this collection is an 1865 letter from Abraham Lincoln and 2 cartes-de-visite, all pertaining to Alexander H. Stephens, who
was also an ancestor of Robert Stephens.

The collection consists of correspondence relating to the Stephens-Reid families, who were located in Crawfordville, Taliaferro
County, Georgia. Included are letters to Mollie Reid with a concentration in early 1962 concerning the death of her husband.
Some of her correspondents include Rebecca Burch, a niece by marriage in Thomasville, Georgia, her mother, Mary Elizabeth
Booker Stephens, sister Anna Stephens Alexander, and her brothers, John Alexander Stephens, Linton A. Stephens, and William
G. (Billy) Stephens. There was also another brother, James Clarence, who is mentioned in some of the letters. Mary's son Leidy
is mentioned in nearly every letter.
